Just saying it conjours up a variety of responses from "I Don't know what that is, I love it, Pilates, yoga, meditation, and stress management."
The truth is that there is not mind-body connection. What? It is one on the same. It is just "us". There is no connection or disconnection. Its all together. Its just that people in general don't know how to maximize the body to the highest level.
Mind body fitness (mind-body, mind/body, mindbody) takes on many shapes. All exercises can be deemed mind body to some extent. The big difference between "traditional" fitness and "mind body" fitness is that in mind body fitness, the intent is to be conscious of the experience and not just accomplishing the task of lifting or striding. Does this make sense? There is always a mental benefit to exercise (with few exceptions). However, only some fitness training options (exercise) has a great mental benefit.
Some prime examples are yoga, Pilates, meditation, tai chi, martial arts, and chi gong (qi kung).
If you want to master your mind body fitness and help others do the same, I can help.
The Spencer Institute offers training and certification in mind body fitness, mental skills training, sports hypnosis, and a plethora of life coach training programs. The sister association, NESTA, will certify you in over ten fitness specialties.
I hope this helps shed some light on mind body fitness.
I'm always here to help guide your journey to optimal fitness and wellness.
Be well,
John
